There’s nothing more enticing than a particular food baked in another particular food. In this case, apple baked in custard!
For this yummy dessert we will need a few key ingredients.

For the crumble;
- 60g flour
- 50g castor sugar
- 25g rolled oats
- 5ml ground cinnamon
- 2.50ml ground ginger
- 50g First Choice Butter, cubed and at room temperature
To Assemble;
- 4 large Granny Smith apples
- 50g First Choice Butter, melted
- ground cinnamon, for dusting
- 250ml First Choice Vanilla Flavoured Custard
Now making this takes bit of time, however, rest assured that it is totally worth it. First things first preheat the oven to 190ºC. Take a 26cm x 18cm rectangular oven dish or any round dish and lightly grease to accommodate about eight apple halves.
Place the flour, castor sugar, oats, cinnamon and ginger in a bowl and mix well using either a spatula or an electric mixer (if your using an electric mixer start on low or the ingredients might fly off and we certainly don’t want the hassle of cleaning that up).

Add the cubed butter and use your fingertips to rub everything together until the dry ingredients are coated with butter and the mixture starts sticking together in small clumps. Set it aside to use later.
Take a knife and peel the apples whole and cut in half (vertically). Use a sharp knife) to carefully scoop out the core and trim the top and bottom of the stem. Pop the apples in a bowl of water as you prepare them to prevent them from browning.
Gently toss the apple halves in the melted butter. Arrange the apples cut side up in the dish and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Spoon the crumble mixture onto the apples and flatten down slightly.
Bake for 40 minutes and remove the dish from the oven carefully transferring the apples to a plate. Pour First Choice custard into the same dish. Arrange the apples in the custard and bake for a further 15 mins until they are tender.
This is to be served immediately to get the best taste out of it and everyone can enjoy your new found cooking skills or the interesting flavours of your dessert.
